Violet Ground Beetle

The beetle was found on a log in the shade of bushes on a rocky beach. The area was surrounded by willows and a few elms. The weather was hot, around 30 degrees, but it felt cool and comfortable in the shade near the water. There were many woodlice and green spiders around.

Initially, it was mistaken for a bombardier beetle due to its purple iridescent shine, but it turned out to be a peaceful ground beetle. The insect was docile and did not resist because it was bothered by many phoretic mites. The beetle was temporarily taken for closer study and photography. Photos are from the original site.
